India vs England 2nd Test 2025: A Historic Triumph at Edgbaston

India came storming back into the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with a comprehensive 336-run win over England in the second Test at Edgbaston to square the five-match series 1-1. The victory was never about the numbers—it was one of intent, resilience, and brilliance, spearheaded by a young captain who's turning into a legend in the making. Shubman Gill's Masterclass Captain Shubman Gill was the unchallenged star of the game, constructing a gargantuan 269 in the first innings and then adding a scorching 161 in the second. His total of 430 is the second-highest in a single Test match after Graham Gooch's 456. Gill's calmness, shot choice, and pressure leadership got him the Player of the Match and placed him in the history books as the youngest Indian skipper to take a Test away from home. India's Batting Blitz India amassed 587 in the first innings, aided by Yashasvi Jaiswal (87), Ravindra Jadeja (89), and Washington Sundar (42). They declared on 427/6 in the second inn...

Tragedy in Karol Bagh: Delhi Fire Incident at Vishal Mega Mart

On the night of July 4, 2025, a catastrophic fire engulfed the Vishal Mega Mart in the congested Karol Bagh area of Delhi, killing two people and raising serious questions about fire safety in commercial areas. What Happened The blaze allegedly started at 6:44 PM on the second floor of the four-storeyed retail building at Padam Singh Road. The structure, full of combustible items such as fabric, mustard oil, and ghee, was filled with smoke within minutes. In spite of the prompt action of 13 fire engines and almost 90 firefighters, the fire was hard to control because there was poor ventilation and the nature of the stock. Lives Lost Two men lost their lives in a tragic accident. One of them, 25-year-old Kumar Dhirender Pratap Singh, was stuck in a lift and succumbed to asphyxia. His last messages to his brother—sent from inside the lift—show a chilling picture of desperation. The second victim, 30-year-old Pawan Gautam of Aligarh, was recovered later during cooling operations. Safety C...

The Kolkata Law College Rape Case: A Chilling Reminder of Systemic Failures

On June 25, 2025, a 24-year-old student of law at South Calcutta Law College was allegedly gang-raped on campus—a shocking incident that has rekindled public indignation and revealed deep-seated institutional and political failure in West Bengal. The survivor, an active student of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) student wing, had come to the campus to pick up examination forms and attend a meeting of students. She was then apparently induced into the union room by the primary accused, 31-year-old Monojit Mishra, an erstwhile student and contractual employee with a prolonged record of criminal charges. As the meeting concluded and others departed, she was allegedly locked in along with Mishra and two accomplices—existing students Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee—who guarded the door while Mishra raped her. The victim was allegedly beaten with a hockey stick, videotaped, and blackmailed on the threat of harm to her partner and family.  Medical exams verified evidence of rape by fo...

PM Modi’s Visit to Trinidad and Tobago: A Bridge Across Oceans

The recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Trinidad and Tobago is a milestone in India's diplomatic forays. Modi, who is the first Indian Prime Minister in more than 25 years to visit this Caribbean country, was welcomed with effervescent cultural festivals, a ceremonial Guard of Honour, and a strong feeling of common heritage. The trip was symbolic, not just ceremonial—it was one of connection. As close to 45% of Trinidad and Tobago's population has Indian origins, the emotional connection was evident. PM Modi paid homage to this heritage by bestowing holy water from the Mahakumbh and the River Sarayu as well as a model of the Ram Mandir on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who was herself a Bihari Indian immigrant descendant. Modi highlighted the time-tested ties between the two countries in his address to the Indian diaspora. He urged the community to look back to their roots, and he said, "Walk the soil your ancestors walked on. We will welcome you with o...

When the monsoon lashed through northern India in July 2025, Himachal Pradesh was at the receiving end of nature's fury. A State on Red Alert The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had declared a red alert for 10 districts, namely Mandi, Shimla, and Kullu. The Beas River and its tributaries overflowed beyond danger levels, inundating villages and carrying away homes, vehicles, and livelihoods. Ruin of Infrastructure More than 400 roads were blocked, including the vital Mandi-Manali highway and the Shimla-Kalka railway line. Power outages affected thousands, with over 1,500 transformers and 170 water supply schemes rendered non-functional. The iconic Shimla-Kalka heritage railway was temporarily suspended after landsli...
